UXBRIDGE CHILD CONTACT CENTRE VOLUNTEERS

2 volunteers needed as Child Contact Centre Hosts

Commitment: once or twice a month, normally the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month, 9.30-1pm

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Tasks:

  • Helping to prepare the Child Contact Centre in advance of people arriving
  • Welcoming Uxbridge Child Contact Centre Visitors
  • Registering UCCC visitors
  • Acting as a host who explains the use of facilities, provides toys and provides refreshments
  • Keeping a watchful eye throughout the contact rooms
  • Tidying up once the contact centre has closed

Other tasks as appropriate:

  • Talking to, listening to and relaxing UCCC visitors
  • Helping parents play with their children

VOLUNTEER PROFILE

UCCC volunteers should be:

  • Cheerful and genuine
  • Over 18 years of age
  • Assertive without being domineering
  • Re-assuring and safety conscious
  • Able to understand issues that affect separating families
  • Able to build relationships whilst remaining impartial
  • Non-judgmental
  • Able to deal with difficult situations and parents under stress
  • Prepared to work as part of a team where people exchange information and support one another
  • Aware of and prepared to follow any UCCC policies and guidelines; in particular, Child protection, Confidentiality, Equal Opportunities, DBS check
  • Prepared to attend and participate in any training events either at the UCCC or regionally or nationally
  • Clear DBS check essential

*Uxbridge Child Contact Centre

The Uxbridge Child Contact Centre has been available to local families for over 20 years and is currently supported by the London Borough of Hillingdon and CAFCASS. We are affiliated to the National Association of Child Contact Centres (NACCC) and abide by their guidelines and protocols.

The Contact Centre is a friendly place, with toys and games for the children and a warm reception for the parents. The Contact Centre staff are volunteers who help run the Centre but children are under the supervision of parents and should not be left alone when they are visiting the Centre.

There are two Contact Centre sessions each month, normally the 1st and 3rd Saturday, from 10am to 1pm at Christchurch Hall in Uxbridge. Redford Way, Belmont Rd, Uxbridge UB8 1SZ
